Q: Does radiation therapy hurt?
A: Radiation treatments are painless – just like a regular x-ray. However,
overdosing to a certain area will burn the skin.
Q: Will I have to hold my breath?
A: This is a good question to ask your physician or the therapist treating
you. It depends on the location of the tumor.
Q: How long does a treatment take?
A. The treatment itself takes only a few minutes; but each session can last
up to 30 minutes because of the time it takes to set up the equipment and
place you in the correct position. The use of OneDose is fast and easy and
therefore does not add additional time to therapy.
Q: If I had radiation therapy in the past, will it affect my radiation therapy
now?
A: It may limit the amount of radiation you can now receive.
Q: Is radiation therapy expensive?
A: Treatment of cancer with radiation can be costly, since it requires complex
equipment and the involvement of many health care professionals. The exact
cost depends on the type and number of treatments you need.
Q: Does OneDose™ affect the cost of treatment?
A: If the patient is eligible for Medicare and Medicaid, the cost of dosimetry
should be covered. However, there are national coverage limits and dosimetry
must be prescribed by your radiation oncologist. Prescribed properly, dosimetry
should be covered. If a patient requests additional dosimetry beyond the
national coverage limits, it would then affect the cost of treatment.
Q: Is OneDose™ covered by health insurance?
A: Yes; it has a national reimbursement code.
Q: Is the OneDose™ patch reused?
A: No. It is used one time to ensure an accurate read.
