Sicel Technologies is pioneering a revolution in cancer therapy.
We are developing telemetric systems that use miniature implantable wireless
sensor technologies to continuously provide real time feedback about biological
and physiological changes in cell and organ systems.
Clinicians may be able to use this powerful information about tumor cells to
impact the treatment or the timing of treatment to target the tumors more
effectively and, ultimately, to develop individual treatment protocols based
more closely on the patient's own biological information and response to
therapy.
In 2006, Sicel Technologies, introduced DVS, the first and only implantable
radiation dosimeter to verify radiation dose delivered to the tumor site. In
conjunction with planning and delivery tools used in radiation therapy, DVS
provides information to deliver more consistent daily dose and optimized
treatment plans to each patient.
A bit of background.
Located in North Carolina's world-renowned Research Triangle Park, Sicel was
founded by Dr. Charles Scarantino. As an oncologist, Dr. Scarantino perceived a
need for a diagnostic tool to provide a reliable and stable method to
continuously provide feedback to the physician about the changes within tumors
of patients undergoing cancer therapy. The concept of a continuous feedback
system was extended to include a number of physiological and kinetic parameters
believed to be associated with malignant growth as well as other abnormal
physiological changes.
